Australia continues to grow as a populous nation that embraces all cultures and peoples. Some of our schools have as many as 50 different cultural groups on one campus!
On April 25 each year, our schools celebrate the contribution of the ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) who have served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.
ANZAC Day was originally devised to honour the servicemen and women who served in the Gallipoli campaign (the first engagement in the First World War, which took place from 1914–1918), but it has now expanded to include all those who have served under the flags of Australia and New Zealand since then.
ANZAC Day is an opportunity for our school students to gather as one people, united in remembrance.
Year 1-12 students took part in assemblies at their ·èÂí¸èÎèÐã schools.
Many spent the public holiday at dawn services in their local areas or at the large gathering at Kings Park in the centre of Perth.
The aim of these occasions is to pay homage to the valour and selflessness of those who served in the years past, never forgetting their profound sacrifice.
For Christians, the concept of the ‘ultimate sacrifice’ points to Jesus’ death and resurrection for the sins of the world. A number of ·èÂí¸èÎèÐã school assemblies are now taking the opportunity to examine the Easter message with reference to the ANZAC ceremony and the concepts of sacrifice, a spirit of servitude, and redemption.
